Message From Our Educator 5/14/08
This coming Sunday is our last day of school for this year. Everyone will come together at the synagogue for a morning of learning and fun, all revolving around Israel. Yom Yisrael will have families "visiting" 17 sites around the country. A few of the sites they will visit will be: Zichron Yaacov will be wine making Eilat will be snorkeling Ashkelon will be the place to go on a scavenger hunt of historical facts Safed will be the place to make a beautiful project Tel Aviv will offer tastes many Israeli foods Beersheva will provide participants a chance to see the sites of Israel via 3-D pictures. The Galilee will have people seeing the land as a whole through the use of the giant floor map There will be an army base for people learn about and experience some of what is involved in training. At the Ramon Crater everyone will enjoy some Israeli dancing as well as learn about life in Israel. Jerusalem will be the place to recreate the old city in a very unique way. Katzin will be a fun place to put Hebrew skills to work
These are just a few of the activiites that will be available during the morning. At 11:15 all upper school students and adults will go to the sanctuary to hear Rabbi Bob talk about Israel; the rest of the students will have another program. If you don't have children in school but want to see what is going on or want to come listen to Rabbi Bob, everyone is welcome.
This issue I want to highlight the kindergarten teachers. Ellen Simsohn has been teaching this class for 25 years. She and Harvey became grandparents on Saturday as their daughter Janice had a baby girl. Mazel tov to them! Sue Push has been working with Ellen for --- years. Sue has two boys, one of whom became a bar mitzvah this year. Mike Riley is in his second year helping out and he is a senior at Glenbard West.
