Message from Our Educator 11/4/09

It may be early November but the camp season will soon be upon us. This past Sunday we had camp day at Westlake to help promote Olin Sang Ruby Union Institute. This past summer we had over 60 campers in attendance during the summer as well as 20 on staff. That is our largest representation overall for any summer. For the past several years we have sent the most campers from any congregation and we hope to keep that coveted honor.

Below are comments from some of our campers:
  • It is the best camp you could ever possibly go to. You can live in tents or in a cabin; there is a pool, a lake, canoeing, sailing, fishing - a bunch of different stuff. We have Hebrew class every day with games and food. I can’t wait until next summer! - Jacob Bender, Tzofim Gimel
  • Greatest place on earth – you become a family with the people you live with! There is something for everybody there – Mosh is very outdoorsy and fun – it was very fulfilling and you feel really proud of yourself after the tiyulim (trips) are done – I went biking, hiking and rock climbing. And, in Gesher, there are a lot of different chugs to choose from; fencing, improv, drama, leadership. I have made friends all over the world, from Kansas to Paris to North Carolina to Israel and I will probably be friends with them for the rest of my life! – Hannah Bender, Mosh Aleph and Gesher
  • I like the new pool and the slides. I also liked when I went on the boat ride. The first night I got to have diner at the Camp Director Jerry’s house. The thing I most liked is making friends at OSRUI. I liked horse back riding too. Josh Diamond – Kallah Atid
  • First you have a lot of fun. You meet a lot of friends. When you go to Kallah Atid you do so many things in five days. You go swimming and horse back riding, you do some thing called the flying squirrel. OSRUI is the best!! Ben Diamond – Kallah Atid
  • I love OSRUI because it's a great way to make new friends and I feel comfortable because everyone is Jewish, not like at home where my only other Jewish friends are the ones at Hebrew school. At OSRUI we have something in common. I love camp because there is such a huge variety of activites to do, I am never bored. My favorite activity this year was the new water center, it is AWESOME!!, and the zip line is so much fun. Courtney Degen - Kallah
