Library News- February 2010
The Congregation Etz Chaim first ever movie weekend held December 19th and 20th, was lots of fun and well attended. Congregants enjoyed both the refreshments and film very much. The adult film shown was “Defiance.” It was refreshing to see a film about the Holocaust that showed a very different story and also had some positive outcomes to it. It was a powerful film and well acted by Daniel Craig and his collegues. We highly recommend this film for your own home movie night. This title can be checked out from our library
The family movie matinee film was “An American Tail,” a Stephen Spielberg Production. I had never seen this film before, but have fond memories of the song in the film, ”Somewhere Out There.” Who knew there could be a film about a Russian, Jewish mouse and his family who emigrate to America? The film was very entertaining. I must say there were a couple of scary scenes that might not be good for very young children. It sent a good overall message of never giving up.
We give a special thanks to our new Library Committee Chairperson, Ellie Lapidus who organized this fun weekend. You can now find the DVD's and books about the film “Defiance" in the library as well as the DVD of the film, “An American Tail” and its’ two sequel films for your family viewing pleasure.
Ellie has also implemented the Reading Star Program, purchased many new books and DVD's.
