The Religious School Committee of Congregation Etz Chaim is a group of dedicated parents, teachers and volunteers that meets once a month to support the religious school staff in accomplishing their mission, as outlined in the religious school handbook. The committee is also responsible for organizing several annual events including a congregation-wide family dinner and cultural Hanukkah program, Jewish book fairs, and a teacher appreciation brunch.
This year we have been busy with two special events that have grown out of committee discussions and activities. The first was a congregation-wide reading program revolving around the book Walking the Bible, written by internationally known author Bruce Feiler. This program involved a field trip to a Chicago museum, two book discussions led by a member of our congregation, and a presentation and book-signing by Feiler. The second special event the committee is proud to be sponsoring this year is a workshop on Judaism for our children’s public school teachers. The purpose of the workshop is to enlighten teachers about issues of importance to their Jewish students and to provide them with insight into Jewish religious practices and culture.
Religious School Committee meetings take place on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM.
