As you may know, SYG has been changed to reflect the fact that high school students face a number of time pressures that conflict with leading a student-run organization like SYG. However, we recognize that our high school students do enjoy spending time together. In response to these conflicting notions opportunities have been created for socializing, as well as a few social action projects throughout the year.
Social opportunities which are open to all students grades 9-12.
The Post Confirmation Class: for 11th and 12th graders
This class meets 6 times during the year at Rabbi Cosnowsky's house where we'll have dinner together and then study various topics that are relevant to young Jewish adults who are about to go off to college. We will explore different issues that Jews face on college campuses such as "Dating", "Finances", "Jewish views on controversial topics - abortion and euthanasia" to name a few. The cost for this class is $72, which covers the cost of food and materials. If you are interested in signing up, please respond to Rabbi Cosnowsky.
Additionally, you can get involved in NFTY-CAR (North American Federation of Temple Youth-Chicago Area Region) in lieu of SYG.
Even though we don't have an official SYG all high school students are still eligible to attend NFTY events. NFTY brings together Reform Jewish Teens from the suburbs and surrounding cities of Chicago, as well as northwestern Indiana. Members come together at many times during the year for learning, fun, worship, community service, and fellowship to help young Jewish adults throughout the region build and strengthen lifetime ties with each other and Reform Judaism. For more information about NFTY, see the NFTY website.
