Kindergarten Sunday April 10

Sun, 04/10/2016 - 6:59am -- Kindergarten

The year is flying by so fast. Hope everyone had a great Spring Break. Before the break we started our Passover Unit and will continue with this unit for the next 2-3 weeks. As always we review why we celebrate Passover. We talk about what it means to be a slave and how great it is to be a free person. Then we talk about how to celebrate,  for passover this includes the parts of the Seder Plate-the egg, parsely, bitter herb, charoset, Matzah, salt water, 4 cups of wine and the Haggadah. Also we teach the first part of the 4 questions.

Kindergarten Sunday 3/13

Sun, 03/13/2016 - 2:02pm -- Kindergarten

We have started our unit on Purim. We are learning all about how we celebrrate-dressing up in costume, eating Hamentashen, making noise with greggors when we hear Haman's name, reading the Megillah (the Story of Esther). We are also learing why we celebrate: Esther was a brave Jewish lady who saved the Jewish people from the evil plot of Haman.

Some Calendar items:

Hi,

We hope everyone had a nice winter break. Starting Sunday January 10 Kindergarten starts one of  our favorite units-Shabbat. The kindergarten class will learn why Jewish people celebrate Shabbat and how we celebrate. We will be making a lot of Shabbat ritual objects including baking our own Challah. The unit will end with a family Mock Shabbat on Sunday February 28, 2016. Keep an eye on your e-mail for more information as the date gets closer.

Thanks

Kindergarten Sunday October 18, 2015

Sun, 10/18/2015 - 4:45pm -- Kindergarten

Today we finished up our unit on the fall holidays-we reviewed what we know about each holiday. Here are the highlights.

Rosh Hashana- eating apples and honey, round challah, saying Shana Tova and hearing the Shofar. Maybe your child can sing the Apples and Honey song for you?

Yom Kippur-the I'm sorry holiday. Very serious holiday where the adults don't eat all day. Everyone can think about what they did not do the best last year and pray to do better.

Kindergarten Sunday October 4,2015

Sun, 10/04/2015 - 3:44pm -- Kindergarten

Today was a busy day. We practice for our big night-consecration tonight at 7pm. Then we went to the Sukkah and shook the Lulav and the Etrog and had a snack. We played a game-"does this go in the Sukkah" and sang a song about the Sukkah. We learned about Simchat Torah and talked a little about the Torah that is has stories about the Jewish people and it teaches us how to act. We talked about how tonight at Simchat Torah we will read the very last bit of the Torah and the very first bit of the Torah.

Have a good week.

Kindergarten September 27, 2015

Sun, 09/27/2015 - 8:02am -- Kindergarten

Welcome to Kindergarten,

On our first day of Sunday School we learned each other's names. We learned to say "I'm here" in Hebrew. (Ani Po). We learned a little bit about the holiday of Sukkot which starts tonight and we practiced the Shema and the the Little Torah song a lot. We also learned about Tzadukkah and that we should bring a little money each week to help those who are less fortunate then we are.

Homework: read the Sukkot booklet-this can stay at home when done.
