Kindergartern Sunday November 22,2015

Sun, 11/22/2015 - 8:03am -- Kindergarten

We have completed our unit on the Synagogue and the Torah. They children made Arks, a Yad, and a Torah Cover for their Little Torahs so they will have them for many years to come.

Today are starting our unit on Chanukkah. As always we will learn how we celebrate as well as why we celebrate. It is hard not to get caught up in the secular view of Chanukkah-that is is a Jewish equivalent to Christmas. We want the children to know we celebrate Chanukkah to remember those who struggled to keep the Jewish faith alive and we are lucky to live in a country that allows everyone to have their own opinions and our own worship without the fear of being killed. We ask them " what whold you do if the President said you can't be Jewish any more or you will be killed?" The kids have great answers.  This theme rings true especially at this time with all that is going on in the world right now.
