Gary Wasserman...guest speaker.
Author of The Doha Experiment: Arab Kingdom, Catholic College, Jewish Professor
Gary Wasserman's decision to teach at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service in Qatar sounds questionable at best. "In the beginning," he writes, "it sounds like a politically incorrect joke. A Jewish guy walks into a fundamentalist Arab country to teach American politics at a Catholic college." But he discovers a world that gives him a unique perspective on the Middle East and on Muslim youth; that teaches him about the treatment of Arab women and what education will and won't do for them; and that leads him to find surprising similarities between his culture and the culture of his students. His book, The Doha Experiment: Arab Kingdom, Catholic College, Jewish Professor is part memoir, part current events, and part insight into an embattled region.
Originally from Washington, D.C., Gary Wasserman has fashioned a career in teaching, political consulting and writing. He currently lives in San Francisco with his wife, Ann.
