Senior Sponsored Lunch and Learn Program "Hollywoodism"

Hollywoodism: Jews, Movies and the American Dream

Based on Neal Gabler's best-seller, An Empire of Their Own, this 1998 film was named Best Jewish Film Experience Documentary in 1998. According to John Leonard, New York Magazine, it is "guaranteed to raise both consciousness and hackles...provocative and engaging." This inspiring documentary depicts the American Dream-- how it came about and who created it.

Through interviews with children and grandchildren of Jewish film greats, we learn of the men who founded Hollywood: Adolph Zukor, Carl Laemmle, Harry and Jack Warner, Louis B. Mayer, William Fox and Harry Cohn. All were immigrants, or children of immigrants, who wanted to reinvent themselves as Americans. In the process, they reinvented America.
